INTERVIEW WITH ATROCITA

OK now we’ve got the site starting to crank along a little we thought we’d set sail on our first ever interview. We picked local bruisers, ATROCITA … Soooohere goes with the first ever Canberra Metal interview with Kobus, Lead singer of Atrocita!

First up thanks for your time mate! How is it all going in the Atrocita camp right now? What have you guys been up to lately?
This is no camp! It’s a Gulag, and we’re making beautifully disgusting noises to serve to the ravenous metal fans of Canberra and beyond.

What are the influences on the band musically and otherwise? Shout out some bands that rock your world or made you want to start playing!
Holy Crap! We all have very different personal influences and musical tastes. On the metal side it’s the whole gamut – Death, Black, Thrash, NWOBHM, Grind, Prog etc, and others include Classical, Synthwave, Soundtrack, Jazz, and something Dupi (drums) found yodelling in his navel.

How would you describe the bands sound?
Well… there have been some great responses like “I was in disbelief that a band from Canberra could sound like that – I am blown away”, and from a very experience sound guy “That was the most amazing and interesting things I’ve heard…”
Also, we’ve been compared sound wise, to Black Dahlia Murder a number of times… huge compliment, RIP Trevor 😢

I know you guys started as Innaxis. What prompted the name change?
We found out Innaxis meant small penis – we didn’t want to be charged with false advertising 😉
Atrocita – from the word atrocity of course, but if you investigate a particular lost language, Atro = Dark, Cita = dangerous shoals, so we are ‘the danger that lurks below the surface of darkness’.

There’s been a few people in and out of the band. How’s this affected the band?
With each new member our sound changed and evolved, always trying to get the absolute best from each member. Right now we all get on great, we all have a passion for the music, and just have fun in each others company. Our sound continues to grow as we tweak and twist it into shape.

What’s the bands plans for the future? I heard something about you guys recording. How’s that all going?
Yes, recording – very strange to have our focus taken away from regular rehearsals. We are pretty damn pleased with how it’s sounding and look forward to sharing the brutality.

What’s been the most memorable or enjoyable shows you guys have done?
The last one with our mates (Tombstone, Black Mountain, Axiomatic) was a bloody Ripper!!!
On stage, we had a blast going crazy, and the audience were putting out just as much energy – you guys and girls who were there – you were the fucking best!!!

What things do you like / dislike about the local scene?
Like: Love watching and supporting the other bands, and watching each develop on their musical journey – 🤘
Dislike: Lazy, unethical, cheating promoters – you know who you are… C*nts!

Thanks for the opportunity to catch up and let us ramble. Happy to chat with you guys at the shows – even you lunatic bastards (yes, we’ll have merch soon… Jeez!)

Stay Metal!!! ❤️‍🔥 yous all…
